Training needs analysis is a process for identifying the skills, knowledge, performance gaps, and learning requirements of a target audience.

Training Needs Analysis is a planning concept used to understand who is affected by a change and how the change alters work, expectations, systems, or responsibilities. In Change Management, this analysis guides communication, training, sponsorship, and support decisions.

TNA is used before designing training so instructional teams can align learning objectives, content, delivery methods, and assessments with actual learner and business needs.

It is used during planning to understand affected audiences, work impacts, concerns, communication needs, training needs, and adoption risks.
